CARA JUAN

theatre maker/musician/writer

Cara Juan (they/she) is a multi disciplinary artist based out of Chicago. Cara studied theater and vocal performance at Lawrence University and performance and interactive media arts at Brooklyn College. At around the age of 11, Cara was diagnosed with scoliosis, but due to a genetic predisposition, was not able to receive surgery to correct it. This spinal abnormality has greatly influenced Cara's relationship with her own body as well as physical bodies in general and what we consider beautiful, normal, grotesque and mundane. They explore these topics in their work spanning written word, music, performance and theater.

The story of humans is both vivid and quiet. It is full of juxtapositions and
contradictions. I am interested in exploring those things.

For the last 10 years, Cara has been performing and creating as one fourth of the indie band, Ladyfang (lead vocals/synth/song writer). Ladyfang was as an official SXSW artist in 2022 and has played hundreds of shows across the US, sharing bills with Roses, Magna Carda and Jack Harlow. In 2025, Cara also became a founding member of the indie group Autoflamingo, who are currently working on their debut album.  Cara continues to work in traditional theater spaces as well, with recent credits including Dot in Sunday In the Park with George and Sibella in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder.

When not making art, Cara is passionate about serving communities and developing accessibility and access in her work as as a certified secondary math and special education teacher/casemanager.
